She has served on several board of directors, community committees, and was a catechist for the San Fernando Cathedral's first communion preparation. She is a charter member of the National Hispanic Science Network, and a member of the American Psychological Association. As faculty advisor, she worked with students to establish UIW's chapter of Psi Chi and NAMI on Campus. She teaches History of Psychology, courses on drug use and addiction, internship, abnormal psychology, multicultural psychology, and community psychology. At UIW since 2006, she has coordinated the Psychology internship program, and Addiction Prevention and Community Psychology concentration. She has worked clinically with people in recovery from drug addiction and mental illness, with gang-affiliated boys and girls, and with people who have HIV and AIDs. Felix-Ortiz has conducted research and published in drug use epidemiology, prevention and treatment crisis intervention police training and criminal thinking and cognitive behavioral treatment.
